Updates...

Report Cards
This is the last week students will get to turn in any missing or late assignments. Students have been reminded all this week about getting in any missing or late assignments because grades will be going out next week on Friday.

Holiday Food Drive
We are currently in the middle of a Holiday Food Drive, parents please donate any extra canned food items to those who need it this Holiday Season. Winning classes will receive a pizza party or an Eegee party, and I know everybody wants one of those for our class. Thank You.

Next Week
Grades will be going out on Friday December 20th, we will also be having an awards assembly that day for any student on Honor Roll or Perfect Attendance. Parents you are more than welcome to come on Friday and see your child get an award for this.

Thanksgiving Break!

Reminders...

Thanksgiving Break, Feast...
This week we only have school Monday and Tuesday then we have the rest of the week off for Thanksgiving. Tuesday is also our school feast day where we get donations from each grade level for a school feast that has turkey, pumpkin pie, drinks, and all sorts of other items. Thank you to all that brought in items for this feast it really helps us out. Most importantly enjoy the time off! 

Progress Reports 
Parents please make sure that your child brought home their progress reports last week. If you have any questions about the grades feel free to email me bboice@lpatucson.org or call the school.

Reminders
Parents do your best to get the Cookie Dough order forms in by Wednesday. This week we are also having boys basketball tryouts on Thursday and girls soccer tryouts will be next week. Parents also please do your best to make sure that your children are coming to school prepared for class everyday. We have had several students lately coming to class without the materials or instruments needed for school, this costs them points in participation as well as work points.

Thanksgiving Feast
Our annual Thanksgiving feast is happening again this year and we ask that any 6th grade parent please donate money to help buy turkeys for the event this year. For those of you who are new to our school we have a School Thanksgiving Feast the week of Thanksgiving at school where each grade level is responsible for bringing in objects, or money to provide for everyone else.

Parents this website pearsonsuccess.net is a very useful tool to use to help your students for math. Go to that website and click the login key, then type in your students first name (Capitalized) then with no spaces last name (not capitalized). The password for everyone is 6thgrade.
Example: Username:  Mrboice
                Password: 6thgrade 
 This website will be used to assign video lessons, tutorials, and games to help benefit your students math learning. Please take the time at home to have your student explore this website it has an online version of the book as well as links from the online version that has helpful tools. This week every student needs to visit the website and click on the to do arrow, then complete an online tutorial, lesson, or video that has been assigned.

Reminders...
 Thank you to everyone who helped out and showed up for the Harvest Fest last Friday it was a lot of fun seeing those who came. For those of you who have not visited campus in some time we have currently started a school garden located right by our classroom. Students will be planting plants and tending the garden area as part of this project. Our class is responsible for planting and getting the plants for our area so parents any supplies, seeds or money you would like to donate would go a long way in making our garden area look great.

Reminders...
Harvest Fest 
Parents this Friday October 25 is our school Harvest Fest from 6p.m.-8 p.m.  Make sure if you are going that your are trying to buy the tickets now (5 for  $1) because once the doors are opened the tickets cost 4 for a $1, and their is usually a long line to wait in. This year our class is sharing the cake walk with Mr. Shields. Volunteers are off course wanted as well as needed, if you would like volunteer please email me and I will let you know when we need some help.  Parents we are also in need of candy to hand out for the Harvest Fest, please bring in some extra candy for the Harvest Fest and your student will receive some prizes.

Reminders
Fall Break is coming up in two weeks! This means that students need to getting in any missing work no later than this Friday. Students can ask me after school for any missing assignments or double check to make sure any work they have in folders has been turned in.  Report Cards will be going out at the end of next week.
Parents please make sure that your student is doing their homework at home. Each night they should have spelling, reading, and math.

Display My Art
This week students will be working on Display My Art. This art project has students complete a piece of paper with  bright colors that will be made into a magnet.  Parents can also buy these art pieces for holiday gifts to be put on shirts, display cases or magnets.

Reminders
Make sure that you are getting your Great American coupon books turned in to me or the front office ASAP. This fundraiser ended last week and we are desperately trying to get the rest of these coupon books turned in. Every student received one of these books and now needs to return them even if they did not participate in the sale itself.

Mid-Quarter end this Friday, parents make sure your students have turned in all their missing work. Students also get next Monday September 2nd off from school please make sure to remember this.  Parents this week ends our sale of the Great American Saving Book so make sure we are getting those sales done and books returned.

Parents please make sure students are not coming to school with any toys, make-up items or other items like that which will distract their learning. I have collected a good amount of these items already and will keep them until the end of the quarter.

Updates
Parents the mid-quarter is right around the quarter on August 30th. Make sure your child has been finishing their work at home then turning it in everyday. Students who have miss days need to make sure they have checked the absent box and turned in any late work. Finally students who are forgetting to put their names on papers they turn in to me will start getting M (missing) scores until they find them and put their names on them from the missing names pile.

Coupon Book Sale 
Please make sure you are trying to help your child with this sale as the money will help the school out as well as get some really awesome prizes for people who sell the booklets. If you do not want to participate then send the booklet in as soon as possible so the school has them. Thank You.

Absences 
In my class students who are absent are responsible to get their own missing work. Our classroom has its own absentee box where students can find any missing work from the last three weeks. Homework assignments are also posted each day on the board for students to see. 
Coupon Book Sale
Students started the Coupon Sale this week. Everyone should be coming home today with a packet of coupons as well as the desire to sell them for prizes. If you do not want to participate in this sale the books need to be returned to school as soon as possible.

Welcome Back!

Welcome Back Students ! 

Open House 
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us at the open house Wednesday,  it was great to meet so many parents and students. Big thank you to all those parents who had students bring in supplies the first day they were much appreciated and are always needed.

Next Week
   Students need to make sure that next week they are coming to school completely prepared to learn because we will be starting lessons on Monday. They will need to have at least a notebook for each school subject (5) and folders to help carry homework from and to school and off course something to write with. Every day students will have homework that should be coming home in their daily along with weekly homework folders, parents please check to make sure they have these things with them.

Blog
This blog will be updated daily/weekly with events that are happening every day in school, spelling lists, homework, and upcoming events. Do your best to check this blog if your student is ever absent to see what they have missed.

Supplies 
Parents we will always be in need of supplies for the school year. Items like tissues, dry erase markers, pencils, paper, hand sanitizer go very quickly so we will gladly accept more of these items whenever you can bring them in.

Syllabus/Handbook 
Every student is bringing home with them a parent/student handbook as well as a my syllabus, make sure you look through these things because they have important information about school in them.

Field Day
Field Day is happening on May 20 this year for sixth grade. Make sure your student comes that day with a change of clothes because they will be getting wet. Last Day May 22nd
The last day of school for us is May 22. That last day is a half day where students will be getting their report cards, please make sure you are here at 11:30 to pick them up for the last time this year!

AIMS IS DONE!
Thank you to everyone for making sure that everyone got to school on time last week for AIMS testing we only had one absence the whole week which was extremely helpful.  Added thanks to everyone who brought in some food for our after AIMS celebration last Friday. Results of the AIMS tests should be released around June so the winners of the $50 or $250 prize will find out who they are at this time.

Penny War
Bring in any loose change that you have at home to donate to the Penny War. Boys vs Girls in the Penny War. Pennies put into your jar go towards your teams money count; nickels, dimes, quarters and any bills go against the other teams total.

Wednesday
This week on Wednesday we have our Jump-a-thon, walk-a-thon even so please make sure your child is sent to school that day with appropriate clothes to participate
.

AIMS Week
Next Week we are starting our AIMS testing on Monday. Make sure that all students how up on time on these days, if they are late they miss that opportunity to take that test that day.  Students should be getting a full night sleep as well as a healthy breakfast each day of the test to help them do their best on the tests.

Spirit Week April 22-26
A week after our AIMS test we are having our spirit week/penny war week. Each day will have a different theme with the penny war going each day.

Run/Walk/Roll Event 
Make sure to join everyone at the Run/Walk/Roll event happening on Match 16th at Reid Park Zoo. Check in for those participating is at 9:45. This will be our schools biggest event of the year where we will have fun, food and games for everyone there even if you are not doing the event itself.  If you are participating please make sure you get your forms filled out and turned in by March 11. Thank you to those who have already signed up.  

Report Cards 
Next week students will be receiving report cards on March 15. Parents make sure that everyone is picked up before or at 11:30 that day as we will not be having after school. The week after that will be our field trip week and then the final week of March 25-29 will be our Spring Break with no school.

Field Trip March 18
Our class will be going on a field trip March 18 to the University of Arizona as part of our leadership program. Permission forms as well as details will be going home soon.

Homework 
Parents please make sure that you are actively checking your children's homework. We have to many students losing points in the class by just not remembering to turn in or do homework. Students are now earning more and more detention to make up the work they have missed for homework.  Every night students will have three things, Saxon Math Lesson, Reading Log, Spelling. This has never changed throughout the year nor will it change now.

Science fair boards and everything is due this week on THURSDAY FEBRUARY 14TH . Make sure that all the materials as well as your board are brought in on this day. Students grade for science this quarter are highly weighted towards what they did in the science fair.

Progress Reports
Students will be receiving progress reports on Monday and Tuesday make sure that you take the time to see what they have for grades as well as signing their forms to let me know that you have seen them.

Updates 
February 4-8 Love of Reading Week! 
Tuesday - Read in Day, for this day students are allowed to wear their pajamas and bring a pillow/blanket for an afternoon reading party. Students are also encourage to bring in a favorite book or books. 
Wednesday - Book Mark Making Day 
Thursday - Poem in a Pocket Day 
Friday - Character Dress up Day. It must be appropriate. 
February 5 - Data due for Science Fair 
February 6 - Duds for Dollars 
February 8 - Mid-Quarter ends 

Mid Quarter- Progress report grades will be going home next Monday please make sure that you check your students grade and sign the form they bring home. 

Read in Day - Students are allowed and encouraged to wear pajamas (that are school appropriate) to school as well as bring in a pillow or blanket. Because it is a read in day students should be bringing with them a few books that they really enjoy. 

Science Fair- Science fair projects should be about finished. Tomorrow the data for the project will be turned in and Friday the conclusion is due. If your child has not finished these things by those dates they will be losing points on their science grade. Please make sure that their boards are completely done by the 15th!

Science Fair - Every one should be working on their science fair projects for the next few weeks at home. The project should be finished by February 5 and the following days is when everything is when it will be turned in.

Science Fair - The Science fair forms have been handed out to everyone this last week. It is very important that students conduct their work for this as on time as possible. Everything happens very quickly this year for science fair and in the next month all the parts of the project will be due.
